Ralph Rotte und Ursula Rotte

Abstract

Political education in a more and more complex society and environment is a major challenge for schools. In a democracy, the development of basic concepts of political interest and social responsibility is a task for every level of education. This paper presents two examples of political education for a fourth grade of a primary school. The lessons sketched here are designed give the children an introduction to two fundamental problems of contemporary political life: the unequal distribution of wealth and food in the world, as exemplified by the problem of hunger in Ethiopia, and the ecological crisis, as demonstrated by pollution and waste in our local communities.
