Dr. John Emeka Akude studierte Politikwissenschaft auf Bachelorgrad an der Universität von Nigeria, Nsukka; und Internationale Beziehungen auf Magistergrad an der Universität von Ife, Nigeria, eher er an der Universität zu Köln im Fach Internationale Beziehungen zum Thema „A Political Economy of Bad Governance, Underdevelopment and State Collapse in Africa: the Context and Dynamics of the Conflicts in West Africa“ promovierte. Er war Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für Internationale Politik, Universität zu Köln. Im Anschluss an seiner Promotion war er Lehrbeauftragter am Institut für Afrikanistik der Universität zu Köln. Danach arbeitete er als Berater im Bundesministerium für Wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung in Bonn. Im Anschluss daran war er als Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Deutschen Institut für Entwicklungspolitik in Bonn beschäftigt. Nebenbei arbeitet er selbständig als Consultant für Investitionen und Entwicklung in Afrika.
